When we introduced the MicroFocus optical system on our flagship Maxima Furiosa, it marked an important step forward in professional lighting design. Finally, an LED lamp could be used bare, even without accessories, and still maintain a good degree of softness, contrast and clarity.

By tightly homogenizing the light at the source, the system allowed for a cleaner, more consistent quality of light straight out of the fixture. This also laid the groundwork for seamless integration with a wide range of modifiers, from Fresnels to softboxes, eliminating the compromises often associated with hybrid optical setups.

Now, we’re proud to bring the MicroFocus Lens to the Maxima 6 GaN.

What’s New?

The MicroFocus optical system for Maxima 6 GaN features a redesigned internal lens structure engineered for precision and consistency.

    • An aluminum collimator that guides the light flow
    • A 3mm-thick borosilicate glass lens fused into an array of 150-micron microlenses that homogenizes the output.

This design ensures an even wider integration of Maxima 6 with light modifiers and a higher light transmission efficiency.

Why It Matters?

The MicroFocus system doesn’t just refine the light output—it redefines how it interacts with your entire setup and the way you use light, even in its more basic form. The result is a wide and uniform 80° beam, ideal for both open-face shooting and modified lighting environments.

Thanks to a 50mm exit pupil, the light is perfectly matched for use with secondary optics like our Fresnel Reflector, ensuring higher transmission efficiency and tighter beam control.

In addition, the optical unit now extends 19mm beyond the original COB surface, significantly reducing the distance to attached modifiers. This closer proximity improves beam shaping performance across the board, offering greater punch, better edge falloff, and reduced spill—all while making your modifier workflow smoother and more intuitive.

Perfect with Softboxes

The new beam pattern also works wonders with large softboxes and open-face modifiers. Less hot spot, more even diffusion—ideal for fashion, portraits, and product photography.

Pro Tip: Try it without accessories

The MicroFocus lens also transforms the way Maxima 6 performs even without any accessories—think of all those occasions when setting up a softbox or modifier would be too time-consuming or impractical. Thanks to its advanced optical design, it significantly softens and homogenizes the beam at the source, allowing you to work bare LED without the harshness or sharp hotspots typically associated with open-face lighting.

This makes it ideal for on-location shoots, tight spaces, fast-paced interviews, guerrilla filming, or whenever a minimalist setup is required—without compromising on the professional quality of your light.

Let’s have a look at an example below, illustrating the difference when used with the Maxima Fresnel.

Flood Mode Comparison

Bottom: Maxima 6 with Maxima Fresnel and the MicroFocus Lens

The Maxima 6 has always delivered impressive output and smooth tonal transitions—but with the new MicroFocus lens, that broad, cinematic character is now even more refined.
In flood mode, the beam becomes more unified, with increased edge-to-edge consistency and reduced spill. The result is a more immersive, controllable fill without compromising softness.

Spot Mode Comparison

Even in its standard form, Maxima 6 has been praised for its punch and clarity—but with the MicroFocus upgrade, it creates a much sharper beam, with stronger center punch and less spill.
It’s a subtle but meaningful refinement for those seeking maximum control and minimum compromise—especially in high-contrast setups or when precision shaping is key.
