At the recent MPN Fotovakbeurs 2025 Event, Maxima took the stage to demonstrate a game-changing approach to visual storytelling.
Held for the third time in Den Bosch, this professional fair welcomed 577 professional photographers, studio owners and videomakers. Together with fashion photographer Evely Duis, we explored how a single continuous light source can power both high-end fashion photography and cinematic video — effortlessly — while significantly reducing the need for post-production, thanks to the consistency and quality of what’s captured directly in-camera.
The Setup: Minimal Gear, Maximum Results
Evely brought her signature style and energy to the shoot, using:
- Canon R5: Leveraging the camera’s native video capabilities — no S-Log, no color grading headaches.
- Maxima 6 and Maxima Furiosa: Cinematic-quality continuous lighting, perfect for stills and video.
- Profoto Beauty Dish: A new favorite of Evely’s for sculpting light in soft, flattering ways.
The Insight: Why It Matters
In Evely’s own words:
“I’m not a videographer. I’m a photographer who wants to add motion to my storytelling without needing to dive into cinema gear or editing headaches. With Maxima, I can shoot both at once — same lighting, same vibe, same beauty.”
Together with Enrico Ripalti, Maxima’s own CMO and creative director of award-winning photography and cinematography studios Cinestudio, Evely was able to demonstrate in detail the core benefit of Maxima for fashion and portrait photographers:

Demonstrating the Hybrid Advantage
Throughout the live demo, attendees saw in real-time how Evely seamlessly switched between capturing editorial-style portraits and slow-motion video clips.
The Maxima 6 offered lightweight flexibility for tight portraits, while the Maxima Furiosa delivered that extra warmth and drama with the wide color temperature control. Each shot preserved color accuracy, contrast, and mood — without requiring post tweaks.
Camera Settings: Simple, Cinematic, Repeatable
One of the highlights of Evely’s demo was just how approachable her setup really was. No complex LUTs, no S-Log profiles — just great light, great lenses, and thoughtful settings.
Here’s what she used throughout the session:

- Lenses: RF 85mm f/1.4 and RF 50mm f/1.2
- ISO: 100–200
- Shutter Speed: 1/250 sec
- Aperture: f/1.4 or f/2.0, depending on distance/depth
- White Balance: 5600K (to match Maxima’s daylight balance)
- Focus: One Shot AF
- Lighting: Maxima 6

- Picture Style: Standard (no Log)
- Movie AF Tracking Sensitivity: -1 (less likely to jump to background)
- Lighting: Maxima 6
Evely choose to use these settings to strike the perfect balance between simplicity and cinematic quality. Shooting in 4K UHD at 25.00fps IPB delivers crisp, natural motion, especially suited for fashion and editorial work in Europe – just access the Movie Rec. Size in the Canon menu. The 1/50 shutter speed follows the classic 180° shutter rule for smooth, filmic movement.
With her Canon R5 paired with fast primes like the 85mm and 50mm, Evely uses apertures between f/2.0 and f/2.8 to maintain a creamy background separation without risking too shallow a focus plane. ISO 400 keeps the image clean while allowing flexibility with modifiers like the Profoto Beauty Dish.
Face + Eye Detection AF ensures tack-sharp recordings, even as models shift slightly during movement. With Movie Servo AF enabled, she uses a slow AF Speed (1) and a Tracking Sensitivity of -1 to maintain a smooth, natural transition between focus points — avoiding the jarring “focus hunting” that can break the mood in motion shots.
Finally, Evely intentionally avoids Canon Log and instead selects the Standard Picture Style, allowing her to shoot and deliver without time-consuming grading — what you see on set is what you publish.
This setup allowed her to record video immediately after taking stills, or even capture short motion clips between poses — a real time-saver in commercial shoots and editorials.
