Can you directly compare the output of Maxima Spectra and Godox?
Only if you compare specific fixtures under equivalent measurement conditions.
Lux figures can be surprisingly misleading because they depend not only on the power of the LED engine, but also on the reflector or lens in front of it and the resulting beam angle.
A relatively modest light focused into a narrow beam can produce a very high lux measurement at the centre of that beam. A more powerful source producing a wider field may measure fewer lux at exactly the same distance while delivering more useful light over a larger area.
So when comparing Spectra with a Godox fixture, we would look at:
- power consumption;
- beam angle;
- which reflector or optic is being used;
- lux at a specified distance;
- the size of the illuminated field;
- and how much output remains after adding the modifier you actually intend to use.
Without those variables, simply comparing two lux numbers can produce the wrong conclusion.
How powerful is Maxima Spectra?
Maxima Spectra is designed around achieving substantial usable output from an unusually compact professional fixture.
Its significance is therefore not simply a headline lux figure. It is the relationship between output, dimensions, weight and power consumption.
This becomes particularly valuable when Spectra is placed on a boom, packed into a location kit, operated from battery power or used in a multi-light setup where every kilogram and watt matters.
A larger 300W, 600W or 1200W Godox fixture can obviously produce more total light. Spectra is not intended to challenge the laws of physics.

How does Maxima Spectra compare with Godox for colour accuracy?
This comparison is closer, because both manufacturers now offer fixtures capable of excellent colour reproduction.
Godox’s professional and latest-generation LED ranges include fixtures with high CRI and TLCI specifications. It would therefore be inaccurate to suggest that Godox lighting as a whole has poor colour quality.
Spectra has been engineered with particular emphasis on spectral quality for professional photography and cinematography, with R9 97 and TLCI 98.
R9 is particularly interesting for photographers and cinematographers because it measures the reproduction of saturated red, an area that the traditional CRI average can conceal. Reds contribute significantly to the reproduction of skin, cosmetics, fabrics, food and many other subjects encountered in commercial image-making.
Does a higher CRI automatically mean a better light?
No.
CRI is useful, but it should not be treated as a complete description of an LED source.
Two fixtures can both advertise CRI 95+ while producing visibly different results because an average CRI score does not tell you everything about the spectral distribution of the source.
For professional image-making, we would therefore consider several measurements together, including:
- CRI for general colour rendering;
- R9 for saturated red reproduction;
- TLCI for performance with camera systems;
- spectral distribution;
- white-point accuracy;
- and consistency across the CCT and dimming ranges.
The numbers are useful, but ultimately the question is how the source renders real subjects on camera.
What does Spectra’s R9 97 mean for skin tones?
R9 measures the reproduction of a saturated red reference colour.
That matters because human skin contains important red spectral information. A source can achieve an impressive average CRI while performing less impressively in deep red reproduction.
Spectra’s R9 value of 97 is therefore an important part of its colour-quality specification, particularly for portrait, fashion, beauty and commercial photography.
It is also valuable for products where accurate reds, browns and warm colours matter.
What does TLCI 98 mean in practice?
TLCI is specifically designed to estimate how a television or camera system will reproduce colours under a particular source.
A TLCI of 98 places Spectra in a very high-performing range and means that only minimal colour correction should normally be required because of the light source itself.
However, I would avoid interpreting TLCI as an absolute guarantee that two different fixtures will look identical.
Camera spectral sensitivity, white balance, other sources in the scene and the particular CCT setting can all affect the final image.
Is Godox colour accuracy good enough for professional production?
Absolutely, depending on the fixture.
Godox’s current range includes models with very good colour-rendering specifications, particularly within its professional KNOWLED family and some of its newer LED products.
This is an important distinction because comparing Spectra with an inexpensive Godox creator light is a very different exercise from comparing it with a professional KNOWLED fixture.
Godox has also built a very broad ecosystem, which can be an important advantage for productions that already own its lights, accessories and control infrastructure.

A large production company may value Godox’s breadth. A photographer or cinematographer building a very compact premium kit may value Spectra’s concentration of performance into a much smaller package.
Maxima Spectra vs Godox: what should you actually compare?
If you are evaluating the two for a purchase, avoid choosing from CRI or lux figures alone.
Instead, compare the exact fixtures using the modifier you intend to work with and consider:
- usable output and beam angle;
- colour reproduction on your camera;
- R9 and TLCI;
- CCT range;
- fixture and power-supply weight;
- battery requirements;
- modifier compatibility;
- control requirements;
- thermal behaviour;
- and the total kit you actually need to transport.
That comparison tells you much more than asking whether Maxima or Godox has the bigger number on a specification sheet.
The Spectra difference is not one number
The strongest argument for Maxima Spectra is not that it magically produces more light than every Godox fixture or that Godox cannot produce accurate colour.
